NCC Caravan Service Engineering Award

For over 30 years, the Caravan Service Engineering Award has been seen as the minimum industry standard that a technician should hold to demonstrate their competence to carry out a caravan and motorhome service. The award is comprised of two assessments: a theory assessment that underpins the technician’s understanding of their everyday practical work which is then demonstrated in a practical assessment.

The theory assessment is a multiple choice exam which is taken using the Academy’s online assessment platform. Learners log into their own account to take the assessment from home or work using a computer or tablet. The practical assessment is a four hour observed caravan service which is completed at one of our approved assessment centres below.

Applications are made by booking a place on one of the practical assessment dates below. Applications must be paid in full before acceptance on to the programme. Learners will then be sent their self-study handbook with which both assessments are based upon. Learners can then access their online assessment any time.

Why take the assessment?

The assessment provides evidence to both an employer and their customers that a service technician is competent and performs to a recognised standard of work. The syllabus follows the minimum service that should be carried out on a touring caravan or motorhome according to industry best practice. Achieving the award demonstrates commitment to ensuring that work carried out meets customers’ increasing expectations. The Award is a requirement of the Approved Workshop Scheme.

What is involved?

The qualification consists of a practical observation of a service being carried out at one of our approved assessment centres and a short multiple choice online exam to make sure that candidates understand some of the theory behind industry standards. This will include gas, electricity, health & safety and other topics. Both the practical and the written assessments examine the candidate on their knowledge, the competence of their everyday work and conformity to health & safety requirements. Candidates choose to take the assessment either as the combined Touring Caravan & Motorhome assessment or as the more limited scope of just Motorhome only.

What happens when I pass the assessment?

Having achieved a successful pass in both parts of the assessment, the learner will receive the NCC Caravan Service Engineering Award. This is fully compliant with the AWS scheme requirements.

Upon receipt of your application we will issue you an invoice. Upon payment we will complete your registration and dispatch the training material to you along with confirmation of the practical assessment date you have chosen and instructions about how to access your online theory assessment.
