NCC Electrical Test and Inspection

"The course was brilliant, I really enjoyed it. Nav, the instructor, was exceptional - he knows his stuff (obviously) but his style of teaching kept everyone really engaged through the full two days." TJS Caravans

Under UK legislation, persons working with electricity must be instructed or skilled.  This NCC electrical maintenance, Test and Inspection course has been designed to cover the relevant skills that will provide you, as the caravan service technician, the level of competence appropriate to carry out electrical work on touring caravans and motorhomes. The course is considered the minimum standard for anyone working on electrical systems within the caravan industry as a service technician.

More dates coming soon!

What will I cover on the course?

This is a workshop based two-day course with a combination of classroom based learning and practical assessment.  The service technician will cover all relevant aspects of electrical safety, test and inspection; including the following: Electrical safety legislation and regulations; Protection from electric shock; Fire and burns and the maintenance of safe systems of work; Determine circuit protection and understand what to earth and what to bond; Inspecting and testing the electrical system of a touring caravan or motorhome; The use of electrical testing equipment; Completing appropriate documentation.

By the end of the two-day course, you will be able to demonstrate that you can work safely with electrical equipment and systems as appropriate to your work.  This course will provide you with the necessary skills to inspect and test electrical systems within touring caravans and motorhomes and to issue an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), or as appropriate, a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC).

Following successful completion of the course and assessment, the technician will receive the NCC Certificate of Achievement in Electrical Maintenance: Test and Inspection of Touring Caravans and Motorhomes.

Do I need previous experience?

The course is suitable for both first time candidates and technicians familiar with electrical work.  If you have alternative electrical qualifications, you should still consider taking this course as the programme is specific to touring caravans and motorhomes and should be seen as complementary to your other electrical qualifications, where appropriate.  Legislation governing electrical work is continually evolving.  The qualification is renewable after five years and meets one of the minimum core competencies for application to Approved Workshop Scheme (AWS).

Due to the practical assessment work, this course takes place in a workshop.  The programme is suitable for technicians working on both touring caravans and motorhomes. The practical training may take place on either type of unit.

Please be aware that to receive full skill levels in electrical maintenance as a caravan service technician, it is recommended you also complete our one-day Systems and Circuits course.

This course may not be suitable if you are a manufacturer or convertor, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
